A Seat at the Table: Chinese Immigration and British Columbia

This award-winning exhibition explored historical and contemporary stories of Chinese Canadians in BC and their struggles for belonging. Using food and restaurant culture as an entry point, the stories in the exhibit highlighted the great diversity of immigrant experiences and of the communities that immigrants develop.
The exhibition featured interactive story panels, videos and audio clips that provide snapshots of the lives of Chinese Canadians. These stories underscored the extent of systemic racism in British Columbia and its enduring impact, while highlighting the ability of Chinese Canadians to resist, organize and thrive.
A Seat at the Table: Chinese Immigration and British Columbia is a travelling exhibition from the Chinese Canadian Museum in partnership with the Museum of Vancouver and the University of British Columbia. Visit the Chinese Canadian Museum’s website to learn more.
